The recent seizures of merchant ships in the west Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden by pirates based in Africa has become a major crisis for the U.S. This is not the first time we’ve had to deal with pirates.

Americans are a fearful bunch. Our swagger is unmatched when it comes to bragging about our nation’s wealth and power, but when it comes down to the personal level, why are we so afraid?

Many believe we have a “moral imperative” to keep drugs illegal. With so many innocents suffering, where is the morality? Is punishing the perceived sin of drug use worth the cost we are now paying?

President Obama’s speech was not full of platitudes and had no particular phrases that were especially memorable. His presentation, however, was straight, to the point, and full of promise.

For health care reform to work for us, we need advocates, from the hospital bedside to the legislature. The days of expecting a group like AARP to represent us may be fading fast.

The core idea of small groups of people meeting to give direction to the government was sound, but became more difficult as people moved from small rural communities to large cities. The Internet has made participatory democracy possible again.

During the campaign both presidential candidates have promised us lower taxes, higher wages, lower interest rates, lower medical insurance costs, and better national security. Both of them have promised that we will be healthier, wealthier and happier if they are the President. The final winner may fulfill some, none, or all of his promises – we won’t know for sure until we are well into the next term. The real bottom line is how their policies will affect you and your family.

We were curious and wondered who the various major nationwide newspapers were endorsing or supporting for President. So we did some research and here is a sampling of what we found as of October 26, 2008. Check out the link!
