Chi, You are so good describing things in details. Even just a little Chinese dish, or desert, making me feel Hungary, Yummy!!

Chi, I am glad you had a wonderful visit there. The pictures are beautiful!

I hope someday you can visit mainland China again, maybe with me to see big changes there too. Beijing is an international city now with all colors of people. My relatives are from the country, but they are doing so good these days. More and more people now own cars. Food are also amazing!! My friends also took me to fancy restaurants every time I go back. Love, Sharon<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('570','Sharon'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('570','Sharon','Chi, You are so good describing things in details.
I loved reading about Chi's Taiwan adventure. It brought back memories of our visit there in 1989.Very exciting and interesting. But when we were there Taipai was crowded and dirty.
Thank you,Chi, for your beautiful description of how it is now. I also appreciated you're feelings about returning to Tucson. After six weeks away, they resonated with me.
What struck me about Chi's narrative of her visit to Taiwan was the contrast between capitalism and communism. Chi tells of leaving China as a child just as the communists were taking over the country. Over sixty years later, China is still a country of few freedoms, while Taiwan has a vibrant economy and the freedoms that come with it--free speech, the equality of women, free trade and travel, property rights and individual rights...
In describing her visit with her relatives, Chi shows how the capitalist economy brings a spirit of optimism to people and happiness. Quite an upbeat article, describing the history and geography of the country, and, between the lines, telling of an achieving and persevering people. She left China as a child as the communists were taking over the country, and to this day, over 60 years later, China is still a country of few freedoms. But Taiwan ! Look at the bustling city and the strong economy. Chi's narrative about the visit with her relatives shows the wealth that has been created in Taiwan, it shows the optimism of the people, the happiness, the freedoms...

Chi,
Wonderful story of your return to Taiwan. You had to leave Beijing to flee the Communists, and they are still here. However I understand there are cultural exchanges and talks. Perhaps China will be reunited someday.

We are seeing another side of China now. No matter the governments, the culture of China is special.

all the best,

CHI...THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WONDERFUL TRIP TO TAIWAN AND TAIPEI,
ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO TAIWAN I AM VERY FOND OF TAIWAN AND ITS
HISTORY BECAUSE MY FATHER WAS A FLYING TIGER INSIDE MAINLAND CHINA FOR
FIVE YEARS DURING WWII. I'VE ALWAYS STRONG FEELINGS FOR TAIWAN AND
ITS WONDERFUL BUSINESS CLIMATE AND THE PEOPLE OF TAIWAN AS WELL.
I WAS IN JAPAN IN 1966 BUT PREFERED MY VISIT TO HONG KONG BY FAR.

YOUR STORY ON TAIWAN STIRRED A LOT OF OLD MEMORIES WHEN I SPENT THREE MONTHS THERE ON BUSINESS IN 1969 & 1970.
THE COMPANY THAT WE WERE DOING BUSINESS WITH SUGGESTED THAT I GO TO SEE THE NATIONAL MUSEUM, AND I WAS OVERWELMED BY THE AMOUNT AND QUALITY OF THE OLD ART FROM CHINA.
I REALLY ENJOYED MY STAYS THERE AND FOUND THE CITY TO SO EXCITING. IT IS HARD TO IMAGINE HOW MUCH IT MUST HAVE CHANGES SINCE THEN<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('539','TOM FENNELL'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('539','TOM FENNELL','YOUR STORY ON TAIWAN STIRRED A LOT OF OLD MEMORIES WHEN I SPENT THREE MONTHS THERE ON BUSINESS IN 1969 & 1970.\r\nTHE COMPANY THAT WE WERE DOING BUSINESS WITH SUGGESTED THAT I GO TO SEE THE NATIONAL MUSEUM, AND I WAS OVERWELMED BY THE AMOUNT AND QUALITY OF THE OLD ART FROM CHINA.\r\nI REALLY ENJOYED MY STAYS THERE AND FOUND THE CITY TO SO EXCITING.
