For several years D
ick Kelly lived as a “snow bird,” living the six winter months each year in Arizona and summers in Michigan. He now makes his permanent home in Tucson, Arizona.
Dick tretired in 1997 after working as a manufacturing executive for thirty-three years. He started writing in 1998 and published his first book in 2007, Growing Up In Mama’s Club–A Childhood Perspective of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In March 2008, he published a revised and expanded third edition of the book. He is now working on the sequel.
Kelly sees himself as a fiscal conservative and social libertarian. At one time he was an avid Republican. Kelly briefly thought the world was coming to an end when Jerry Ford lost the presidential election to Jimmy Carter in 1976.
He became disenchanted with the Republican party when he felt that Ronald Reagan opened the door to evangelical Christians who were dedicated to legislating their peculiar brand of righteousness. Having experienced as a child how an extreme, fundamental religion can sever a person’s rational thinking skills, Kelly decided that he wanted no part of that type of politics.
After experiencing eight years of the big spending George W. Bush Administration and government policies that have resulted in church and state marching toward a merger, Kelly now has a raging passion to speak out. Dick’s only hope is that it is not too late.
